Jesus died for our sins, a terrible death on the bitter tree, the cruel, rugged cross, on a hill far away...Then he went to Hell for 2 days, doing God alone only knows what (i.e. preaching), and 3 days later was back again.
Now, whilst I appreciate that dying on a cross is not a barrel of laughs, it's not exactly "death" if you "wake" again afterwards.
At most, Jesus was temporarily inconvenienced for our sins.
