Because God has been so good at hiding Himself (or Herself, of Themselves, or Itself, ...) we have ended up with a host of varying views of what the Truth is. Some of these views are not considered to be just views by their proponents, but divinely revealed truths. Yet these truths appear to be different, so someone is telling porkies (lies).
Or maybe all of them are?! (oooooohhhhhhh)
See, that's the problem with religion. Since it is not based on evidence, you can say whatever the hell you like, and it's all be true, like Santa for adults.
